Connecting the film community — offline since 2018, online since 2025.

From outdoor screenings to festival coverage, from networking nights to doc clubs – we've been connecting Scotland's film community since 2018. Now we've also gone digital with an online platform designed by film people, for film people.

Cinetopia is a hub of activity around filmmaking and filmgoing based in Edinburgh. We create events and content for both the general public as well as film industry professionals, bringing the film community together.

  • FINIS TERRAE + LIVE SCORE on TOUR

    12-16th September across Scotland

Experience a beautifully restored version of Jean Epstein’s 1929 silent classic Finis Terrae, with a newly composed original score performed live by Edinburgh-based multi-instrumentalist Dan Abrahams and French drummer Philippe Boudot.

On the treeless, windswept islet of Bannec off the Breton coast, four seaweed harvesters set up camp for the season, smoke rising from their pyres of burning algae. Trouble begins when a quarrel between Ambroise and Jean-Marie over a broken wine bottle leaves the young Ambroise injured, and simmering tensions give way to fear and mistrust.

🎵 Performed live by Dan Abrahams and Philippe Boudot. Presented by Amanda Rogers of Cinetopia.

  • CINETOPIA:DOC - Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché + Q&A

    30th September 8.20 pm

    Edinburgh Filmhouse

Cinetopia DOC presents Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché as part of Transmission: Youth Across Generations, a multi-event programme exploring how youth culture has shaped identity, belonging and collective memory in Britain from the 1980s to the present.

As the first woman of colour in the UK to front a successful rock band - X-Ray Spex - Poly Styrene was a blazing voice of rebellion in the chaos and upheaval of 1970s Britain - singing about identity, consumerism, postmodernism, and everything she saw unfolding with a rare prescience and a female perspective.

As an Anglo-Somali punk musician, Poly Styrene was also a big influence on the riot grrrl and Afropunk movements, inspiring later artists such as Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney and Neneh Cherry.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Paul Sng, and Patch It Up! A punk-inspired, clothes customisation workshop (tickets booked separately for workshop).
