REDRAWING EDINBURGH
September 2021 - Multiple locations across Edinburgh
Directed, Produced and Edited by Amanda Rogers as a “Cinescapes” production, Written by Alistair Rutherford. Music by Dowally
A centenary commemoration of Edinburgh's dramatic transformation in 1920, when the city more than tripled in size through the historic "amalgamation" - incorporating Leith, Cramond, Corstorphine, Colinton, and Liberton into the capital.
Crafted from national, city and local archives, this short film programme explores how the 1920 Edinburgh Boundaries Extension Act changed daily life and local identity across these communities forever. Through rare archival footage, we revisit this pivotal moment when over 100,000 new residents became Edinburghers overnight.
Part of the innovative Cinescapes film festival, "ReDrawing Edinburgh" transforms into site-specific outdoor projections, bringing history directly to the very communities that experienced this monumental change a century ago - projected onto the buildings, walls and bridges that witnessed the city's expansion. A unique blend of historical archive which was projected in situ on buildings in Edinburgh that illuminates how borders, identity, and belonging evolve over time.
Created in partnership with Edinburgh City Archives. Used projection mapping technology to project the film onto local buildings in five locations across the city. Projected in September 2021
